Interesting StuffAn earthquake measuring 7.9-magnitude hit western coast Indonesia’s Sumatra island on Sept. 12, 2007. The powerful earthquake triggered warnings of a potentially destructive tsunami for much of the Indian Ocean region.
The undersea quake hit at about 6:10 p.m. in Sumatra and badly damaged buildings along the coast. There was a series of aftershocks, the strongest was 6.6-magnitude and it triggered a second tsunami alert for Indonesia. At least seven people were killed and about 100 injured as reported at 11:30 p.m. local time.
