China has began the work on the world’s highest and largest big Ferris wheel – Great wheel of China which will soar 680 feet (208m) over the Chinese capital (Beijing) when it is completed by 2009.

“The wheel itself is a nice add-on to the city. It’s a new icon for the city,” Great Wheel Corp Chief Executive Officer Stephan Matter told Reuters ahead of the ground-breaking ceremony. “The capsule in London caters for 25. Ours will cater for 40 people. It’s like a little bus. It’s 18 tonnes heavy. It’s like your living room. The Beijing one will be very affordable.”

“It will allow the people of Beijing to rise up and see the city from a completely new perspective,” added by Stephan. “It is a flight.”
