As you know, some high-end luxury cars feature voice recognition system to simplify such mundane tasks as controlling radio volume/tuning and adjusting the climate control. And how about the fighter aircraft? Researchers at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Human Effectiveness Directorate are working on system that enables F-35 Lightning II pilots to communicate with their fighters via speech recognition.

“We’re going to work with the vendor to improve the baseline system for the F-35,” said David Williamson, senior crew systems engineer for the directorate’s Warfighter Interface Division. “Collaboratively, we’re going to make the system much better before it even gets to the initial operational test and evaluation phase.”
