An Indiana woman Shawnda K. Hatfield from Dunkirk was arrested for publishing her own obituary on local newspaper, The Star Press. She then faxed a copy of her obituary to the Delaware Circuit Court Judge Robert Barnet Jr.

An employee of The Star Press, Kathy Whittenburg told reporters that a woman claiming to be Hatfield’s niece called to publish the obituary.

The 41-year-old Hatfield was sentenced to four years for check forgery on the account of the company where she formerly worked and theft case. She was arrested at her home and charged for faking her own death in order to avoid jail time.

Hatfield proclaimed she never involved in this case and didn’t know why her death notice was published on The Star Press on Aug. 30.

This case is still under investigation.
