A 58-year-old a state farm retiree, Lan Huaifang from Haozhou city Anhui, recently surprised many people when she enrolled to a local elementary school to become the classmate of the children.
Lan Huaifang was brought up in a poor family and she didn’t go through any formal education since she was a kid. It was her desire all these years to study in the school. After her retirement three years ago, she had extra time to learn something new and her desire for knowledge has become ever stronger.
Her decision for formal education at school was strongly supported by her family, and she is a Grade One student in a local elementary school and is addressed intimately by teachers and classmates as ‘granny pupil’.
