A 20-year-old bakery worker in Canada who was suffering symptoms of salmonella poisoning has been fined C$1,000 ($970) for going to work. He was charged for ignoring an order to stay at home until he recovered.

Health inspectors in Edmonton, Alberta, told Adam Duerr to stay at home until tests showed he had recovered. But Duerr failed to have himself tested and went back to work.

Just because he ignored the order, the bakery was fined C$1,500 ($1,455) and the owner also fined C$1,000 ($970).

The medical officer of the local health authority, Gerry Predy told Reuters: “We almost never have people who disobey the order to stay off work”.

The moral of story – hard working doesn’t mean you are a good worker…
