Paris Hilton’s one-hour interview show at “Larry King Live” was King’s highest telecast since 21 September 2005, whereby 4.9 million viewers tuned in for breaking news that included the emergency landing of a Jet Blue Airbus 320 in Los Angeles and Hurricane Rita.

Paris Hilton and her representatives have been negotiating for the exclusive rights to the first interview for most of the past week. Both ABC and NBC were heavily involved in pursuing the interview, expecting it to attract high ratings. A spokeswoman for King’s program, Bridget Leininger, said that no money had been paid for the interview. “Larry King never pays for interviews,” she said.
