KFC restaurants in China just added a new local Chinese food, youtiao (油條) or deep-fried dough sticks, in its breakfast menu, which could be a perfect complement to its popular Chinese-style porridge selections.

KFC claims its youtiao has no alum, which is normally used to keep the food fluffy and crisp, but it is bad to health if consume more. KFC had spent more than a year to come up the alternative for alum.

The youtiao is selling at three yuan (41 US cents) per stick in KFC, which is three times higher than its price at ordinary hawker stalls.

Other than youtiao, more Chinese food is expected to list in KFC’s breakfast menu soon.
