British scientists from University of Bristol have developed a non-stick chewing gum “Clean Gum”, which could be launched commercially in 2008. This non-stick chewing gum can be easily removed from pavements, shoes and clothes.

Terence Cosgrove, the professor of chemistry said: “The advantage of our Clean Gum is that it has a great taste, it is easy to remove and has the potential to be environmentally degradable.”

Professor Terence Cosgrove was the person who helped to find the company Revolymer to commercialise the result of their research, the non-stick chewing gum.

A special polymer was added in the non-stick chewing gum to modify its properties that makes it far less sticky. It was compared with leading commercial gums which remained stuck to the pavement three out or four times, while Clean Gum removed naturally within 24 hours in all cases.
