Classical Erotic Dance
Interesting StuffWould Beethoven blush if he knew Symphony No 3 were to accompany a dance production called Sinfonia Eroica? While not entirely nude, the dancers nevertheless portray a journey of courtship, friendship and love between a man and woman in sexy and intimate eroticism on stage. Sinfonia Eroica is the brainchild of Michele Anne de Mey and has recently won the Eve du Spectacle award.
The dance begins with an empty stage with just a dangling rope and an attached pulley roller. The dancers covered the space in no time with playful and teasing action – jumping, flying, somersaulting, dancing, and pivoting violently. Feelings of innocent joy, breathless ecstasy, excitement and danger descend on the audience with intensity. The empty space is occupied by physical bodies in dynamic action. Then the dancers walk off in pairs as the story of the dance slowly unfolds. The themes of love and the interaction of relationships begin to dawn on the audience. But one female dancer is left struggling alone.
Water is the surprising element in this production, used to show the fluidity and universality of relationships. Water represents the sexuality and freedom of the dancers as well as merging them into one entity. Water encompasses all space and fills dry corners. The shock of having buckets of water thrown on stage with abundance echoes the release of tension and inhibitions in the audience. The sight of semi-naked dancers sliding and gliding on the wet stage with their wet bodies and sexy clinging clothes embrace the freedom and transcendence of love. The dance is a brilliant celebration of love, sexuality and relationships.
