Arching or (Aching?) back in a rolling action

“Nuat phaen boran” or in Thai language “นวดแผนโบราณas” as it is called in Thailand translates as ancient massage, “Nuat” being the Thai word for massage and “Boran” is from the ancient spiritual language of Sanskrit and roughly translates to ‘touch that is sacred or revered’ which alignes the energy of the body and it originates from the times of Buddha.

Thai massage is like yoga combined with acupressure. It involves a wide variety of stretching movements and pressure points with deep massage to produce a uniquely relaxing yet energizing and highly effective therapeutic treatment. Sessions are performed on a floor mat with the client comfortably dressed.

Do you ever remember the sounds of oohs and ouchs experience for its really freaking hurts like hell? Want to give up !

But after a while the initial torture relieves you into a state of relaxation , enjoyment like light and free of anythingelse Halo afloat effect of sensation as the rhythmic massage pressure into almost every part of the body (includes pulling fingers, toes, ears cracking the knuckles, walking on the back, arching the back in a rolling action etc).In the case of northern style there are a lot of stretching movements whereas the southern style emphasis is given to acupressure.

Don’t try it If you are not prepared for it as the Thai masaage is extremely dangerous.Attached is a video clip showing how a youngster in Japan , Tokyo Shinjuku ( Manako) experienced it for the first time , excruciating painful just by looking from his facial expression .Remember Relax Youself would definitely subside the pain !

A little more of the background
The Traditional Medical Massage of Thailand, more commonly known as Thai Massage, is one of the world’s oldest healing modalities. It originated in India during the Buddha’s lifetime, over 2500 years ago, and was brought to this world by a saint, the “Father Doctor Shivago Komarpahj”, a contemporary of the Buddha and some say his personal physician and the physician to the King of India.

As Buddhism spread out from India, this healing medicine spread with it. Early in its development it found its way to Southeast Asia where, for centuries, it was performed by monks as one element of indigenous Thai medicine. The Thai people, like many others in the orient, saw illness as an imbalance in the body/mind/spirit and they would seek help at the local temple. They were treated with the four elements of traditional Thai medicine:

  • nutritional counseling (focusing on diet)
  • herbs (given both internally and externally)
  • spiritual counseling (primarily meditation and the Buddhist principles)
  • and Thai Massage (which formed the backbone of the physical treatment).

Thai Massage is an interactive manipulation of the body using passive stretching and gentle pressure along energy lines. These movements help to

  • adjust the skeletal structure
  • increase flexibility
  • relieve muscular and joint tension
  • stimulate internal organs
  • balance the body’s energy system

The effect is uniquely relaxing as well as energizing. Receiving a Thai massage is a bit like doing yoga without putting forth any effort while also getting acupressure treatments!(Institute of Thai)
